Often times I hear, "you are doing the most." However, if you aren't doing the most, are you really doing enough? *LOL* I am a true, "ooooo I can do that." Sometimes I can, other times, I should have bought it from the store. There is an enjoyment from being able to say, "I made that." I also think there is something special about making things for someone else. It doesn't have to be a fancy over the top DIY. But, some DIYs, like gift baskets are simple. It allows you to customize the items in the basket for the person you are loving on. Customization is the heart of DIYs.
When I got engaged 11 or 12 years ago, I really got into DIYs. We had a budget for our wedding, me being me, I was determined to stick to that budget. I was NOT going to be broke over one day. That was the mindset I had my entire wedding planning process. As I looked at websites, random Google images, and magazines, (yes, there use to be loads of wedding magazines on the shelves), I realized: 1) My taste and budget didn't match 2) Michael's sold all kids of stuff 4) There were "how to videos" posted on this new thing called YouTube 5) I lived near Michael's 6) Michael's had coupons! 7) I had time to try my hand at this tool called a glue gun 8) There are times when purhcasing items was cheaper than renting So, I went to Michael's, armed with coupons, and roamed the aisles. It was amazing. Loved it. My wedding, our wedding, turned out exactly how I wanted it to be. Saving money on decor allowed to us to be able to spend more on catering, up lighting, honeymoon and most importantly, a down payment on our first home.
